Andre Nickatina / The Greatest Hits

Andre Nickatina is one of those artists who defines what it means to have character as a rapper (something I am thinking about writing about on my hip hop blog). Bitches, blunts, and brew are frequent topics of discussion in his lyrics, but far from the only thing he talks about. Nickatina has a strange fetish for comparing himself to animals (a whale, a barracuda, a lion, a wolverine, and especially all kinds of birds), obsessing about his hair, and frequently letting the listener know that he is, in fact, a Pisces. He is certainly in another league and he's defined a style that is just plain weird, but strangely attracting. Most of the time it might seem like he's just talking about nonsense, but after you listen to enough of his ramblings, you actually feel like you know Andre, and you understand what sets him apart from most modern rappers. Normally an artist might just keep revisiting the same played-out topics of the gangster life, and while Andre makes it clear that he is a gangster, his true quirky character shines through. Also pay attention to the instrumentals, they are diverse to say the least.

The trouble with Nicki's discography is it's incredibly large and diverse, and without an official greatest hits compilation. Honestly, his material has a very low signal-to-noise ratio, and this is my attempt to combine his best songs into one album.
